Simulation settings


The simulation periods can be defined in the Simulation section.

The calendar icon at the end of the Simulation start date and Simulation end date fields can be used to set the respective time periods, the arrows can be used to switch between single days.

By clicking the button Today todays date is automatically selected.

Once the time periods for the simulation have been defined, the simulation duration is automatically calculated and displayed in the Simulation Duration (Days) field.

In the field Simulation duration (days) a value can also be defined manually. After entering a value in this field, the date in the Simulation end date field is automatically adjusted.

In the field Statistics reset (days) you can define after how many days a reset of the statistics should be performed.

Using the parameter random numbers variant, results can be compared using the random stream (see Figure 1).

Notes for random numbers variant:

In Siemens Plant Simulation, a random number variant refers to the specified method used to generate random numbers during a simulation.

Plant Simulation works with a pseudo-random number generator. To ensure that a simulation remains reproducible (same inputs ? same results), a seed and a random number variant are used.

Definition

A random number variant is therefore a fixed sequence of random numbers determined by the seed and the selected variant.

Seed: Start value used to initialize the generator.

Variant: Selection of a “random number series” within the generator.

By combining seed + variant, you obtain a unique sequence of random numbers that remains consistent throughout the entire simulation run.

Benefits

Reproducibility: You can run a model multiple times and obtain identical results as long as the seed + variant remain the same.

Comparability: In experimental test series (e.g., DOE, optimization), variants can be used to run through several “random” scenarios without shifting the dependency to other random sources.

Independence: Multiple objects (e.g., processors, sources) can use different variants so that their random numbers do not overlap.
